May 2007
These were shot in my new studio, which is now my former
studio. They were all done in natural light - I say this
because shots 5 and 6 look like they were lit, but about
halfway through the shoot a large shadow from two smoke
stacks gradually moved across the three windows in the
studio, so bright sunlight would come through only one
window at a time allowing me these nice results. I didn't
use the studio very much as I don't like to use a
location more than once, but the light was nice. As for
the process: After being a old-school darkroom jockey for
many years, doing things digitally feels a lot like
cheating. It is much easier, but probably like most
photographers, I get more out of doing the shoot and
sharing the images. The process has become entirely
secondary. The model was somebody I wanted to work with
for a very long time and I was glad to have the chance
when she came through town. All I can say is that Iceland
must be a warm country.
